On a side note, they all thought it was HILARIOUS when Charlie calls one mean guy a "lousy cracker". It always takes me by surprise the parts of a story they connect with.
Today in class, we are finishing reading the short story "Flowers for Algernon". We had a wonderful discussion in one of my classes about the allusion to Adam and Eve in the book. I was surprised by some of the connections that my students made. Moments like this are why I love being a teacher. When the students enjoy the story and truly understand what the author is trying to show them, when something "clicks", it is just an amazing feeling. I'm really going to miss these kids when my interim is up.

This week is Homecoming week at FMS! We have had some very cute / funny spirit days: 'Merica Monday, Toss It Up Tueday, Wacky Tacky Wednesday, Throwback Thursday, and Falcon Spirit Friday! I wore red, white, and blue on Monday, and on Tuesday I dressed up as bleu cheese! On Wednesday I wore the tackiest shirt I owned (an Alabama one....gross). On Thursday, I dressed up in 90s grunge, and Friday I wore my Homecoming t-shirt and a blue bow. On Friday, the student council sponsored a Bingo game for the entire school. They announced the numbers over the intercom, and the winners had to "soar like falcons" down to the office to pick up their prizes. It was a lot of fun! I was pleasantly surprised at how many students and teachers participated. I love spirit week and how it helps bring the entire school together!
Anyone who knows me, knows that two of my greatest loves in life are monograms and school supplies, so this year for my birthday present to myself I decided to combine the two. I am slightly obsessed with my new clipboard. I'm a nerd; I know! But it's so pretty and sparkly and cute and adorable and so many more adjectives! :) |
